Consider requesting a free rescheduling via GMAC. Mentioning indisputable evidence such as the info above may be helpful.

Hi evillpander,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your Proctor that you faced when you took the GMAT; that must have been incredibly frustrating. If either of your two white boards matched the specifications listed at www.mba.com, then you should have been allowed to use it for your Exam. Asking to see the rest of the room you were in is a fairly standard request though (and if you were talking outloud during your Exam or frequently looking away from the computer screen, then that would have likely led to the request to see if there was anyone else in the room with you).

In the short-term, you should absolutely file a complaint and see if you can get a free retest. The 'investigation' could take up to a few weeks, but this might all be wrapped-up in just a few days.

Before I can offer you any additional advice, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) How did you actually score on your Official GMAT (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
2) How have you been scoring on your CATs/mocks?
3) What is your overall goal score?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi there,

I had a similar experience on my first take and then again on my second.

The first time around my Proctor spoke broken English and was really hard to understand. I intended to use an on-screen whiteboard so when she asked me whether I had a whiteboard I said "No, I will use an on-screen one" and she replied "No, online whiteboard is not permitted, ok?". A little back and forth and I thought there must've been a change in rules which I wasn't aware of. I did half the quant section in my head before realizing that an on-screen whiteboard was available. However, that whiteboard was so unresponsive that I ended up doing the whole thing in my head and then filed a complaint and got my score revoked due to technical difficulties.

The second time around the proctor spoke proper English but literally made me show my room while I was writing an essay because "I was looking at the side". Of course I was, when people think they tend to look up or to their upper left and not dead straight into the webcam. Now, besides being frustrating it didn't bother me until 2 months after the exam I got an email saying that there was a technical difficulty with my quant exam and that my score was updated (even though it wasn't). Upon asking the support what is meant by that or how was it updated, I got no response for 2 weeks and then just a short answer restating the initial email. Basically, they said my "quant questions were showing wrong" and offer no further explanation. As far as I understand, if the test is adaptive and you're shown a wrong question, it can send you snowballing the wrong way. I feel like that should also lead to a technical error and a free retake.

In any case, just wanted to let you know that you're not alone and I'd suggest spamming their support to provide you with a free retake. Honestly, I'm dumbfounded by how horrible they're able to mess up such a simple product as an online test. Not to mention that the whole thing is a visual trip back to 2002.
