Gave my first attempt today. I had heard enough cases of horrible experience on the online version of the exam, because of which I decided to give an in-center attempt. However, the in-center experience was such a huge let down!

When I arrived at the center, I noticed an ongoing construction work (noises of drilling, sawing and hammering) right outside the entrance. I brought this to the proctor's notice, but I was told that "the earplugs will be able to cancel 90% of the noise". Hence, I had to wear the earplugs which were very annoying. I kept getting distracted due to the fit. Even, my computer was obsolete - the brightness was extremely low, the screen resolution was poor, and the monitor was very dirty. Aggravating the situation further was the poor air conditioning in the room. My desktop was enclosed within a partition which obstructed the air from the air conditioner. The weather was extremely harsh (with temperature as high as 38°C at noon, and a humidity of 83%). As a result, I was sweating profusely. After the first optional break, I had a severe headache due to the constant sweating. I repeatedly tried wiping away the sweat from my forehead, and was eventually asked to keep my hand away from my face. As a result, I bombed my Quant section (Q46). I have never gotten less than a Q49 in any of my previous mocks (even the e-GMAT mocks were above Q48).

I am extremely disappointed. My question is - should I report the poor test-center conditions, and ask GMAC for a retake? I accepted the score because I don't really have savings left for another attempt. something is better than nothing.
Sorry, to hear about this bad experience. If you don't mind may I know which test center you booked for the test? Was it in New Delhi or somewhere else? I am just concerned about it.
Thanks!

Hi austin316.

I think asking for a free retake is the move. That test center was a joke, and even telling you to keep your hand away from your face was insane.

Hi Marty, thank you for your response. This was quite reassuring. Can you help me with an email ID (or any other relevant link) for reporting my in-center experience?

Hi. It wasn't New Delhi. I come from a Tier-2 city. I went back home because ample slots are available in my hometown. Backfired :(

Wouldn't hurt to send a request. Try to mention any indisputable evidence in your favor.

Hi. Thank you for your response.

Fortunately, I took a picture of the construction, and also recorded the noise on my phone before entering the room. I hope the test center video camera can support my claims - the constant sweating, the earplugs, and the partitioned enclosure.

Hi. Thanks for the confirmation. I asked this ques to you because I am from New Delhi, India. Most probably, I would book for the test here only.
