Hi cburanawit.

What have your accuracies on easy, medium, and hard Quant and Verbal practice questions been?

Also, you might get some insights into what happened from this post. Why Was My GMAT Score Lower Than My Practice Test Scores?

Hi Marty
Thank you so much for your reply :please:
For Gmat Club tests (the Official doesn't classify difficulty level) I got almost all easy correct, few medium wrong (3 - 4 for Verbal, a little bit more for Quant), and half of hard questions wrong

But thank you for your insightful article. Upon reflection, I must admit that all the mocks including other unmentioned sources were done a week prior my test. Still, on the test day I dont recall feeling that much fatigued.

Consider getting the ESR of your recent attempt. May provide some helpful insight into what happened. If you feel your fundamentals are solid, working on your solving approach may be help boost your score a bit. Had a 6-hour student who also got a V31 who went to a V40 in about 30 days, for example. Perhaps work with a study buddy who is really strong on Quant and/or Verbal. Ultimately, you already have a 700 attempt in the bag. Fair to say the 600 could be a bit of an outlier based on your info.

How to score high on the GMAT. Why solving approach is important.

Thank you so much for your reply  :please:
As we're approaching the 1st round application phase, I will need to shift my attention towards other materials. Would you say that it's still possible for someone to put GMAT aside for a few months, redo again, and get a better score than the previous one which he took while 100% committing to GMAT?
The point I'm trying to get at is whether I should completely forget about GMAT for now to avoid depleting official materials or I should continue reviewing in a less intense fashion.

Thank you again for your post, it means so much to me.

It's normally a good idea to start taking practice tests at least 1-1.5 months before your exam. Taking multiple practice tests just before your exam is unlikely to help you develop your test-taking skills.

If I were you, I'd focus on other aspects of my application, and deprioritise GMAT Prep. This will also give you more time to work on your test-taking and time management skills. On the other hand, if you think that you're ready and just had an off day, go for it. You already have a great score (700) to fall back on.

I'm grateful for your input and encouragement sir! Will definitely give it another go once I feel satisfied with all other part of my application.

Hi cburanawit,

I have a very important question. Is it possible that you were nervous on the day of your exam or suffered from anxiety?

Hi, everyone and experts GMATNinja Bunuel KarishmaB
I recently took my third attempt at GMAT and was shocked to see a -100 points drop from my previous official test score
Here's my journey
1st: 650 Q47 V35 Feb
2nd: 700 Q47 V39 May
3nd: 600 Q42 V31 Jul

On the first two attempts I prepared without taking any mocks, just a long stretch of practicing. For both first and second attempt I felt that I wasnt managing the time right and was forced to guess on several questions at the end of both V and Q. So I pivoted to focus on time management and started to do mocks (2 official prep, 1 Gmat club test) and got V40 - V41 on all three mocks and scored around Q46 - Q49. Basically all the mocks seemed to confirm that I've improved and ready. So I booked the official test and was surely surprised, not only that my score deviates a lot from the mocks but it's also worse than my first attempt!? Even more surprising is that I felt that I was managing the time a lot better than the first two.

What would be your thoughts on my third attempt, would it be just an outlier? What went wrong?
I tag three of you experts because learned almost exclusively from your explanations: V from Charles's and GMATninja's, and Q from Karishma's and Bunuel's

P.S. the material I use are OG and GmatClub tests
Thank you all for hearing my story out.

I have known people to have a bad day and then bounce back splendidly after a month or so.
Practice from official resources for a few days, try to work on your weaknesses and then take the test again. No reason for you to not do well.
Best wishes!
