The Start: I got the OG books and started solving Verbal questions. I got most of the easy questions correct but when it came to moderate & hard questions, my accuracy suffered. I realized that even when I was reading the solution for verbal questions, my learning was often limited to that question and I was not strong on my basics.
Search for a test preparation provider: There are so many options available that I was very confused which test provider to choose. So, I decided to go through the free YouTube videos of all these service providers and I could easily see that e-Gmat had the best content and delivery style. So, I immediately decided to take a subscription of e-Gmat.
Initial Study Sequence: I initially started studying multiple sections together because I would often get bored studying one section. This strategy just did not work as I could not get the required ability score in the hard application quizzes. I just struggled in my quizzes.
Getting in touch with an e-Gmat mentor: Akash was assigned as the mentor to me and he told me that I need to work on my basics and follow the study plan that he would share. He shared a study plan which would require me to prepare one section at a time. The study plan was so well crafted that all I had to do was follow the study plan and get back to him after I was done with each of the steps mentioned in the plan and he would share the next steps. Akash told me to follow the plan to the ‘T’ and I did exactly that.
Extra videos and workshop links: Even while following the plan, I would get stuck at times. I would write to Akash about the difficulties I was facing and he would often share extra videos and bootcamp session links so that I could go through those sessions and overcome my weak areas.
Special step that worked in RC: RC was the strongest section for me in verbal. Though I was still making a few mistakes in RC, I realized that most of these mistakes relate to passages which were on topics that I wasn’t very comfortable (e.g. universe, biology etc.). So, I watched a lot of short videos on YouTube on these topics so that I could understand these areas better. It really worked for me and next time I came across such topics in RC passages, I could comprehend them very well.
Quants Preparation: I was strong in quants and didn’t struggle much in this section. I made effective use of the Artificial Intelligence algorithm which is available on the e-Gmat Platform. I used to give a diagnostic test for a sub topic in Quants and based on the results of the test, the algorithm would tell me which topics I can skip and the topics for which I need to go through the basics. This strategy helped a lot in saving time.
Three must do things:
1)Error Log: Every time I made a mistake or was not confident about an answer, I would make a detailed entry in the error log with details on what went wrong and the learning from that question. My SC error log had about 200 such entries while my CR error log had around 150 such entries. The error logs in RC and Quants had relatively less entries as I did not make too many mistakes. I revised my error logs every third day.
2)Application(cementing) quizzes: The e-Gmat platform clearly defines the no. of application quizzes that one needs to attempt for each difficulty level and the score that we need to obtain. I just followed the procedure laid down for attempting each of these quizzes in a sequential order as defined in the plan and wherever I faltered, the process also laid down what needed to be done. I simply followed the same.
3)Regular Revision: Once I got done with a sub section, I would follow the revision plan which my mentor Akash shared. As per the plan, I need to revise an already completed sub-section once in every 3 days from the pool of already attempted incorrect questions.
Mocks: I attempted 5 e-Gmat Mocks and 2 Official Mocks. My lowest mock score was 690 (excluding the diagnostic mock) and the highest mock score was 750. I analyzed each mock for 8-10 hours and always made it a point to have detailed notes on what went wrong, and my areas of improvement.
Final Thoughts: The contents on the e-Gmat platform are just great. Payal teaches the content so well that I must admit that I have never learned verbal so well in my life and I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the preparation journey. A special thanks to my mentor Akash for guiding me in every step of this journey .
