My Background:
Before I delve into my transformative journey, let me provide some context. I come from a heavy quantitative background, having completed my Bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering in 2018. Currently, I work as a Senior Software Engineer at an IT company, where I've honed my technical skills over the years. My decision to pursue the GMAT was driven by a desire to further my career and education.
The GMAT Challenge Begins
My GMAT journey commenced in February 2019 when I took my first exam. In my initial attempt, I scored a 630, which showcased my strong quantitative skills with a Q49 but also highlighted my weak verbal performance with a V26. This stark contrast reflected my background as a non-native English speaker who had initial education in Hindi, a regional language.
The Turning Point: e-GMAT's Online 360 Course
Determined to improve my overall GMAT score and particularly enhance my verbal skills, I began searching for a more structured and comprehensive study approach. It was during this quest that I stumbled upon e-GMAT's Online 360 course. The prospect of a structured and results-driven preparation program piqued my interest, and I decided to give it a try.
e-GMAT's course structure follows a three-step process: Concept Files, Cementing, and Test Readiness.
In the Concept Files phase, I found myself engrossed in well-defined video lectures, notes, and quizzes. This phase provided me with a strong foundation for both quant and verbal, addressing the gaps in my understanding of English language intricacies.
The Cementing phase was where I truly began to see transformation. It allowed me to apply the concepts I'd learned to GMAT-style questions, sharpening my problem-solving skills in both the Quant and Verbal sections.
The Test Readiness stage was equally important. I utilized the course's data analytics tool to identify weak areas and focused on them using custom Scholaranium quizzes. e-GMAT's mocks, designed to mimic the official GMAT exam closely, provided highly accurate score predictions and in-depth data analysis similar to the Enhanced Score Report (ESR).
The Second Attempt and Ongoing Struggles
In my second attempt, after taking the e-GMAT course, I scored a 680, with a Q49 and a V33. While I had covered all the concepts and saw improvements in my accuracy, I struggled significantly with time management, particularly in the verbal section. Being a slow reader, managing time during the Reading Comprehension section proved to be a formidable challenge.
The Support of Dhruv and the Last Mile Program (LMP)
From my second attempt to my third, Dhruv, my dedicated mentor through e-GMAT's Last Mile Program (LMP), provided invaluable assistance. He helped me hone my skills and provided various time management tips that proved to be game-changers. His guidance was instrumental in improving my performance, especially in verbal.
The Transformation and the Third Attempt
Thanks to the ongoing support and targeted assistance from Dhruv, my GMAT preparation underwent a remarkable transformation. In my third attempt, I achieved a remarkable score of 730, with a Q49 and a V40. This score reflected not only my improved verbal skills but also my enhanced time management abilities.
