Debrief on GMAT Journey with e-GMATMy GMAT journey began in November last year, and after researching various options, I chose e-GMAT based on positive reviews about its Verbal section. Here's a summary of my experience:
Baseline Test and Target Score:Took a baseline test upon enrollment, scoring 610.
Target score set at 740+.
Verbal Focus:Started with Sentence Correction (SC) and completed Verbal by January.
Faced challenges in Critical Reasoning (CR) and struggled to pass quizzes.
Break and Restart:Took a one-month break after finishing Verbal in January.
Restarted the course in late February.
First Attempt and Quant Journey:Completed Quant in early May, with particular struggles in Number Properties and Word Problems.
Achieved a 680 (Q47 V35) on the first official test. ESR revealed 96th percentile in RC, 55/60 in both SC and CR, and 30th percentile in DS.
Last Mile Program (LMP):Contacted e-GMAT and joined LMP with Abha's guidance.
LMP structure included weekly check-ins, homework, and mixed quizzes.
Motivation and positivity increased, achieving improvement in weaker areas.
Second Attempt:Mock scores improved to 720/730 by July.
Scored 700 (Q49 V36) on the second attempt with ESR showing percentiles of 86, 66, 69 in RC, SC, CR, and improved DS to 70th percentile. Gave this attempt with no sleep so thought it was just the lower end of my range.
Intensive Preparation and Third Attempt:Focused on CR and SC with CR Bible and the free weekly
Target Test Prep trial since I had exhausted a lot of material.
Averaged 730 on official mocks, with a max score of 770.
Prepared intensively for 20 days and scored 660 (Q49 V32) on the third attempt. This was really heart breaking after the LMP and fixing weaker areas. I noticed I got only 30% questions correct on my the first Block on Verbal which led to the low score. It was really hard to get over it since I had done everything I could at that point and even considered switching to the GRE since R1 deadline were quickly approaching.
Expert Guidance and Final Attempt:Consulted e-GMAT's CR expert, Dhananjay, who identified weaknesses in CR answer choice analysis. I was correctly identifying the conclusion and pre-thinking right but was struggling with eliminating answers/or spending too little time on it.
Worked on refining CR strategy and gave the last attempt in August.
Final Attempt and Success:Scored 740 (Q49 V42) on the last attempt.
Emphasized stress management on the exam day.
Recognized the mental aspect beyond 700 points and the importance of belief in the process and the e-GMAT team.
I would like to thank Abha's motivation and guidance as crucial to success.
In conclusion, my GMAT journey with e-GMAT involved overcoming challenges, utilizing structured programs like LMP, seeking expert guidance, and emphasizing mental preparation. The final success at 740 highlighted the importance of perseverance, belief in the process, and the support of a dedicated mentor.
If I were to do it again I would focus on SC's basics like the Master Comprehension since that gives you a strong foundation in solving really hard questions. The trick with CR is to really follow a structured process while attempting a question. Read -> Visualize -> Identify Conclusion if needed -> Understand the Question ask -> Pre think potential answers/or figure out the direction the answer would point to -> And most important take time in Answer Choice Analysis. Correct Answers always weaken/strengthen the conclusion.
And most importantly figure out what de stresses you right before the exam so you have mental clarity before the first question shows up! Good luck
