Hi everyone!
I wanted to share my GMAT journey with you all, as I know how valuable it is to learn from others’ experiences. Here’s a recap of my preparation:
Background- Bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Techniques from a French university (2023)
- Currently preparing for a Master’s degree in Management and Finance at a French business school
- Two 6-month internships on trading floors in investment banking
- Aiming for a career at a top-tier investment bank in London, so I decided to pursue a GMAT to apply for Master’s programs starting September 2025
I am planning to apply to programs such as LSE, LBS, Imperial, Warwick, Bocconi, ESCP and ESSEC, and set my target score at
645 (based on the research I did about the schools I was targeting).
PreparationI began my preparation in mid-July while working full-time, so time management became essential. I created a disciplined study schedule, dedicating time from 6:50 am to 9 am on weekdays. On weekends, I aimed to set aside 3 hours each day for mock test.
For prep, I used:
- Magoosh for quant video lessons and questions
- GMAT Ninja for RC videos (very helpful!)
- Official GMAT guides (OG)
- GMAT Club for question explanations
- Anki flashcards for quantitative concepts and vocabulary
- Excel Tracker: I created an Excel tracker to log every practice question I did, including whether my answer was correct or incorrect, the time taken, any difficulties I encountered, and what I learned from the question. I used the data collected to identify my weak areas and focus my preparation on improving those specific sections.
Mock Test ResultsHere are my results from the mock tests:
- Mock Test 1 (Aug 11): 435/800 (Q70, V78, DI67)
- Mock Test 1 (2nd try, Sep 23): 605/800 (Q80, V79, DI81)
- Mock Test 2 (Nov 3): 605/800 (Q78, V81, DI81)
- Mock Test 3 (Nov 9): 535/800 (Q75, V78, DI77)
- Mock Test 3 (2nd try, Nov 11): 625/800 (Q84, V81, DI78)
- Mock Test 4 (Nov 13): 675/800 (Q84, V86, DI80)
Official GMAT Test Result- Score: 645/800 (Q85, V81, DI79) I achieved exactly the score I had set as my minimum target!
At the moment, I don't plan to retake the GMAT, even though securing a higher score could improve my chances of being accepted into one of my target programs.
Key Takeaways- Consistency was key, even with a busy work schedule
- Start your preparation by strengthening your basics in the quant section
- Review every question you take. The most important is to learn from your mistakes and develop automatisms
- Practice again and again. I did around 1300 Quant questions, 400 CR and 400 RC
- I would recommend to practice mock exams during the last month of your preparation. It is mostly useful to develop a pacing strategy that works for you
- I found the quant section of the mock tests more difficult than the actual GMAT, but the verbal and DI sections in the official test were slightly more challenging, with 4 long RC passages
- The last few weeks of focused mock test practice helped me fine-tune my timing and strategies
I’m excited to move forward with my applications and wanted to thank this community for all the tips and motivation throughout my prep. If you’re in the middle of your GMAT journey, keep pushing—consistency and dedication truly pay off!
Good luck to everyone, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
