I started my GMAT journey with self-preparation. I started preparing in April 2023. I appeared for an official mock in May 2023 and for the official GMAT in June 2023. I ended up scoring 650 both on my mock and the official exam. Being an engineer and having graduated from top tier engineering college in India, I was good on Quant, but I scored miserably low on the Verbal section. Verbal started becoming a nightmare for me. Even after solving Official Guide questions, I did not get a command on the Verbal Section. Be it RC, CR. Or the Sentence correctio, everything was haunting me. Getting a great score is simply the first step in the ladder that leads to a good B school, but the verbal section seemed the biggest obstacle in this journey.
Then one fine day I stumbled upon a TTP ad. There was an offer to try TTP for a week for a mere $1. I decided to give it a try and, whoa! It never occurred to me that Verbal was such a conceptual thing. The disconnect I felt with the Verbal section seemed to have gotten addressed by the study module of the TTP.
I started preparing with TTP in July 2023, and within five months of prep till I appeared for my official exam, I appeared for five official mocks. This time I was much more confident while appearing for the mocks. I had gotten a good command of the Verbal section. I scored within the 710 – 740 range on the official mocks. The day finally came. I still remember, 31[sup]st[/sup] Oct 2023 it was. I was very optimistic that I would get a good score this time, yet I was anxious. The moment of joy came when I saw the score on screen. A solid 730, 95 percentile. I had scored V37, 81 percentile, up from V 28 (47 percentile) of the las official GMAT.
I was targeting only one B school, but unfortunately did not convert it. Subsequently, the format changed. The classic version got obsolete. I was thinking of improving my GMAT score to make my application stronger for the next year, but the very thought of preparing for the new version seemed humongous. Moreover, the professional commitments made the task even tougher.
Again, there came a day when I stood up again and decided to give GMAT another shot. What came to my rescue, no surprises –
Target Test Prep!
I enrolled for the dedicated GMAT study plan in July 2024. Within three months I brushed up all the quant and verbal concepts and mastered the DI section with the help of TTP. The official mocks went well. I appeared for the official GMAT on 4 September 2024. Ended up scoring a 715 on focus edition (95 percentile). I could not hold back my emotions the moment I saw my scoring. My journey flashed before my eyes in a jiffy – from a 47 percentile in Verbal to a 98 percentile! It felt like a dream.
