I am incredibly sorry you are going through this, Harshitha. Reading your post, I can feel the sheer panic and heartbreak you are experiencing. Taking a whole gap year, studying with complete dedication, and having your family take on a ₹35,400 financial loan just to have this happen over a weekend with zero transparent explanations is a nightmare scenario. Your frustration is 100% valid, and it is entirely unfair how opaque this process feels.
Since you asked for direct advice on GMAT Club, let's break down exactly what a "T" code means, how GMAC operates behind the scenes, and what your fastest, most realistic path forward is to save your November 2026 MBA timeline.
1. Understanding the "T" Code (The Silver Lining)
While it feels devastating right now, it is critical to know that a
"T" code stands for "Testing Issue" or "Technical/Environmental Irregularity."- It is NOT a cheating accusation: GMAC reserves "P" for Policy Violations and "S" for Serious Violations (cheating/malpractice).
- No Permanent Stain: A "T" code means GMAC determined something went structurally or environmentally wrong with the session (likely the corridor noises or the shifting room setup/eye movements flagged by their automated post-exam AI review). Business schools do not look at a "T" code as a sign of dishonesty; they see it as a technical or environmental mishap.
2. Retests, Refunds, and Senior Leadership
- Will you get a free retest? Yes, it is highly possible. When GMAC issues a "T" code for an online exam, their standard protocol often includes issuing a free voucher code to retake the exam at an official physical test center, while simultaneously placing a temporary ban on you taking it online again. Check your spam folder and your mba.com dashboard carefully over the next few days to see if a test center voucher has been generated.
- Can you get a refund? GMAC almost never issues cash refunds for completed or cancelled sessions, but they heavily favor compensating via the test-center voucher.
- Reaching Senior Leadership: Appealing directly to
Code:
a second time rarely works once they issue the "final and binding" template, as those desks are heavily guarded by front-line security agents. However, some students have found minor success by emailing GMAC's legal department (
Code:
) or politely finding regional GMAC India leadership on LinkedIn to explain severe financial hardship, though responses are never guaranteed.
3. The Fastest Path Forward (Saving Your November Deadline)
Harshitha, because your first appeal was rejected in 24 hours,
do not spend any more precious time or emotional energy fighting the bureaucracy of the online system. You have a hard deadline in November 2026, and your focus must shift entirely to control what you can.
Here is your step-by-step game plan:
- Step 1: Pivot to a Physical Test Center immediately. Taking the test at an official Pearson VUE test center eliminates the risk of fluctuating internet, corridor noise, hostel room restrictions, and aggressive AI eye-tracking. It is a completely controlled environment.
- Step 2: Secure funding for a retake if a voucher doesn't arrive. If a free voucher doesn't show up in your account by next week, you may need to find a way to book a new slot. While adding to your financial burden is a painful thought, think of it as protecting the massive investment of your gap year.
- Step 3: Leverage your preparation. Remember: They cancelled your score, not your knowledge. The hard work you put in over the last year is still inside your head. You already knows the concepts, you've practiced the logic, and you are fully capable of hitting your target score again.
You are a genuine student, and this is a massive speed bump—but it does not have to be the end of your MBA dream. Dust yourself off, look for that test center voucher, and get ready to clear this hurdle in person. The community is pulling for you! 🙏

bb GMATNinja ScottTargetTestPrep BrentGMATPrepNow MartyMurray Bunuel EMPOWERgmatRichC Dear GMAT Club Community,
I need urgent help and advice. I am Harshitha from Vijayawada, India. My GMAT score was cancelled with a T code and absolutely no specific reason given.
MY SITUATION IN BRIEF
I took a full one year gap specifically to prepare for GMAT and attended a coaching center with complete dedication. I come from a lower middle class family and had to take a loan of ₹35,400 just to pay the exam fee. I have MBA applications due November 2026 and this cancellation is completely destroying my entire timeline and future plans.
WHAT HAPPENED ON MAY 31 2026
I took the exam from a private room in my hostel. The proctor approved my environment more than 5 times. During my last section the proctor asked me to move the table. I honestly told him it was fixed and immediately moved my chair instead. The proctor then did a complete 360 degree check from the new position and was fully satisfied. He gave me zero warnings throughout the entire exam. At the end the proctor confirmed my unofficial score as final. He also told me "I will contact you" but I never heard from him again.
Environmental factors were beyond my control. There was occasional corridor noise from other hostel residents and brief internet fluctuation only during the initial checks. My eye movements were only due to checking the on screen timer because of exam anxiety.
THE PROBLEM
The cancellation email arrived just 36 hours after my exam over a weekend with only a vague mention of irregularities and no specific reason whatsoever. I filed a comprehensive appeal explaining everything. It was acknowledged on June 3 and rejected on June 4 in less than 24 hours again with no specific explanation. Just "final and binding."
I strongly believe this was an automated system decision because 36 hours over a weekend is simply not enough time to review a 2 hour exam video. The human proctor who watched me live had absolutely zero concerns.
MY QUESTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY
- Has anyone received a free retest or refund after a T code cancellation?
- Has anyone successfully reached GMAC senior leadership?
- Any advice given my November MBA deadline?
- What is the fastest path forward from here?
I am a genuine student who did nothing wrong. One year of my life, my family's hard earned money taken on loan and my November MBA dream are all at stake because of an automated decision made in 36 hours over a weekend.
Any help, advice or support would mean everything to me. Please also tag anyone else who might be able to help. 🙏
