First of all, thank you very much for all the SC help, mental support and kind words that everyone has provided. I am really grateful that I found this site and the wonderful community of aspiring MBA students.
As promised, here is my debrief:
710 93%
Q 47 81%
V 40 90%
I actually followed everyone's advices here. I didn't study much yesterday, apart from reviewing the Brutal SC set and the hard OG DS questions. Woke up feeling anxious this morning, so I just hung around the house, watched some DVDs (Trainspotting, interesting movie!), and strummed some guitar.
Finally I couldn't wait anymore and decided to head out to the test center really early (1.15 mins earlier than the scheduled time). I am glad I did, as Chicago has insane weekend traffic

. I did not register for the test till two weeks ago, so I couldn't secure a spot in the downtown test center. Once I got there, the proctor was nice enough to let me start early.
I took the two scheduled breaks and followed Kryzak's advice to stretch, eat my protein bar and splash some water on my face. It was invigorating indeed!
But yeah, I thought the Math was fairly easy ... but this is probably because I got the first couple of questions wrong (as evidenced in my low percentage score). The verbal was not too bad as well, apart from 1 really tough scientific RC. I was staring at the screen for 10 mins trying to decipher the meaning, but my effort was in vain. I had to guess three to four questions related to this passage. CR was OK, pretty straightforward. SC, as usual, is an entirely different beast to tame. I am convinced that there is nothing at all I can do to fully conquer this section
Anyway, here is my detailed study history:
Started about late April/early May. I have a very demanding job with long hours, deadlines, etc, so I slacked off on studying during weekdays ... only did review of 20 to 25 questions from OG. Being a procrastinator that I am, I actually still have not finished that OG book yet

.
After 1 month of OG, I took KAPLAN CAT to see where I am. Was disappointed when I had a mere 570. This was a wake up call to me, as it elevated my study mood. I decided to study harder and concentrated on the following:
- OG 11th ed: finished everything else except for RC and CR
- GMATCLUB Math Challenge: did 10 to 12 of them. Very helpful indeed
- SC1000: Did about 300 something questions
- Manhattan SC - started reading about a week ago. Great reference, indeed. Thanks so much, Kryzak and FinanceGuy!
- Brutal SC - started doing them about a week ago.
I started my CAT practice about two weeks ago:
PowerPrep1: 660
PowerPrep2: 740
GMATPrep1: 680
GMATPrep2: 720 (taken last week ... the last practice CAT I took).
I think what worked best for me was by following all these posts from GMATClub. I learnt a lot of obscure idioms and rules on SC just by browsing and reading posts in this forum. I would definitely recommend the Brutal SC for anyone having difficulties with SC. It totally killed me, as my hit rate was about 40 - 50%. If you want practice on Math, the challenges are great source. Tough questions with tricky and lengthy calculations ... they're great for providing directions on how you should proceed with certain types of questions.
But yeah, in any case, I am just really glad that it is finally over. Thank you again for all the help and the mental support. Best of luck for everyone taking the GMAT, and hope to see you one day in the real business school setting
