Took the test last week. After blanking out for a few days, I decided I might as well type up an AAR to help me organize my thoughts.
I utilized a lot of the studying and test taking strategies on this forum, most of which were really helpful. My only sources of study were the OG 10th and 11th editions. A friend lent me the
MGMAT books a month before the test, but I only went over those for the combinatronics, since I felt by this time going over the strategies in
MGMAT would only confuse my own brain.
All OG 10 and OG 11 questions were done at least four times over, since I've actually been prepping on and off for 2 years. At first I pretty much brute forced all the questions, then started developing strategies based on the answers in the back of each book. Overall, I spent about 70% of my practice time on the quant section, 30% on the verbal section.
I did the GMATPrep 2 times, scoring: 680, 710 respectively.
Test results: 700 - 92%(Q44 - 70%, V40 - 89%). I think that's the breakdown, don't have the score sheet available with me right now. I'm trying to puzzle how the score works out, since my Q is high-score/low-%, but my V is low-score/high-%.
The AWA was very easy, so I won't go over that. No idea about the score on that, but I'm not losing sleep over it.
Quantitative section was very stressful. For 90% of the questions I was certain I solved each and every single one of them wrong. But strategies developed during my practices and tips from the forum helped me keep my cool. I had to guess on three or four that I had absolutely no idea how to solve and didn't want to spend more than 2 minutes staring at each them.
Verbal section was something of a mixed bag, and was very hard for me to gauge how well I did. As a result I ended up finishing verbal with too much time to spare.
The 700 score was very surprising, since I felt I scored in the 600 range.
Right now I'm seriously debating whether or not to prep for another test. I'm sure if I pull up my verbal I'll get into the 700+ range, but I can't shake the feeling that I got very lucky on my quant section. It doesn't help that I know the verbal score is very hard to improve on. I'm aiming to apply for PhD programs, so achieving the magical "mean" score of 720 that a lot of PhD programs mention would be very nice and ease any doubts I have about inadequacies on my GMAT score. But I'm not 100% sure my score won't drop the second time around...
Any suggestions from the crowd?
