Hi there.

Yes, I did find the actual test and the PP fairly close. For both the verbal and the math part.

How did you do on your GMAT by the way, and what difference did you notice as compared to PP?

I got 740 just the day before the test and then 750 on the test day as I was more careful and patient compared to home practice. I did get decent sleep though. I doubt one can get good sleep the night before.

I did meet a probability question and got bogged down on it, but still pulled out 49 out of quant.

I studied using Kaplan. Did you use any materials besides PP?

Wow, you have a very good score there! Congrats on it.

I haven't had time to study other than the PP materials.
I would just have retaken it if I had bombed the test, since I think that luck plays more rule than putting effort on the study.

For how long did you study the GMAT? Glad to hear that you didn't study the OG either, since I hate that book and tend to hate people who study that book as well :)

Thank you

I studied for about 3.5 months - the time it took me to go through Kaplan's main book and two workbooks. I did not think there was value in OG, but I have said this a number of times, Kaplan does not have probability and statistics to the extent that OG does, and had I looked at those problems, I would have had a higher score. (it is never enough  ) So, both of us demonstrate that memorzing OG is useless, but studying the basics of math is vital.

Another curious point is that I expected a 700. When I took the test, I did not think I did well enough to score anywhere above 700 - I was never confident in my answers on Verbal, I felt as though I was failing all the time, but that's the nature of the GMAT.

Just curious, why do you hate the book?

I hate the OG since

1. it has an image of being old fashioned
2. too thick, and thus, too heavy to carry
3. saw many people memorizing it only to bomb the test
4. efficacy/per effort is low
5. don't like the paper quality
6. don't like the fact that still many people overemphasize it
7. my girlfriend don't like it

WOW :)

I think I don't like it for being un-friendly in terms of space and waste of pages, but I definitely won't come up with 7 reasons.

As to #7, is she taking the GMAT as well?

Yes, she will. The problem is that she is scoring around 650's in the PP, but doesn't want to study the OG due to the reason similiar to that I gave you. Would you recommend Kaplan? What about PR?

That's cool. The thing is that most of the time women in Bschool suck, so consider yourself lucky :) Would you go to the same school though? I have not heard that done.

I would recommend Kaplan's Workbooks. I would spend enough time on both of them (Math and Verbal) and then move on to the tests, instead of doing a little of patching and then taking a test, finding a huge hole, doing some more patching and then taking a test again.

Both of the books are $13 or smth like that and absolutely worth the money - nice paper, small size, and great format

Thx!! I will definitely recommend her to study Kaplan in that case!
And yes, I also think that I am quite lucky, since I agree that most B-school girls suck! We hope that we can attend schools closeby.

By the way, thanks for this great forum you guys are running :o

heyy sebl!!! i got the same score!! with the exact split-up!! i mean (730 v-37 and q-51)

i was worried abt the low verbal score and i wanted to ask you for advice...so, what all schools did u apply for and where did u get it??? and also, please tell me about your profile..

i'm not planning to apply now...maybe after 3 years..

hello flyingkolours

welcome.

Your question would be best answered by Linda Abraham and/or MBA Game Plan. Please post your question there and i am sure you will get good advice.
