First off, let me say I was surprised when this score popped up on the screen. I was certain that my scaled score in quant would be lower than my score in verbal. Still, I suppose this is somewhat of an improvement over my PR CAT I took before I really started preparing (620, 36Q, 40V). Since that test, I have mostly spent energy preparing for the quantitative portion. Still, I have alot of work to do in both. Here are the results of my post-test analysis:
Quant:
Missed 14 of 37, 10 within the first half of the problem set.
57% of misses were due to careless errors
58% hit rate on PS problems
67% hit rate on DS problems
Verbal:
Missed 17 of 41, including 9 of the last 13
Missed 3 of the first 4 questions
55% hit rate on CR problems
79% hit rate on RC problems
44% hit rate on SC problems
Quant Plan: This week, I found myself focusing almost exclusively on working through problem sets, using both the OG11 and Challenges. I would analyze my results, writing an
error log for each question missed. However, I was not devoting any time outside this analysis to actually studying fundamentals. Judging by my score above, I have clear deficiencies in my grasp of the fundamentals. I plan to work more on studying fundamentals this week, to go along with fewer sample problems. I will continue producing an errors log, but spend more time reviewing it.
Verbal: I'm still shocked by this score. I purchased the
MGMAT SC guide, which should help out with my low hit rate in this area. I probably only worked on verbal for 2 hours out of nearly 25 hours of studying this week, which has obviously affected my preparedness for these problems. I plan to study the SC guide, and work through more verbal problems (as I've heard that simple exposure CR and RC problems are usually sufficient to get that score up there). I will continue producing an errors log, and spend time reviewing it.
I realize my target score seems high, given my current status, but I'm confident I can get there. Once I get these quant fundamentals down, expose myself to the challenges, and work through tons of verbal problems, I'm going to start getting some scores closer to the target.
