Hi did you take the gmatprep tests before taking the real GMAT ? If not, I'd highly recommend taking these tests as they give an extremely accurate estimate of your final GMAT score. This way, you'll know what level you are at before attempting the GMAT again.

Hi all, I want to know if taking a GMAT third time is really a bad decision, as I have heard that the schools generally donot consider 3 rd time applicants.I have a bad score (480 q 27,v 28) and without much time delay i took the GMAT in another 3 weeks and the score was worser( I had a bad day, as the Pen in the center was not working, both the pens that they gave, and I landed up doing verbal with no notes in my notebad) and not to my surprise I landed up in a terrible score.430(q 33,v 18).

I wanted to know if giving a GMAT a third with lots of preparation is a bad idea..Moreover,, I have an analytical score of 5.5 (%83) .But is that score ever useful to the application process?

Anyone pls advise.. I need some real bad help!!

Taking the GMAT a third time isn't bad; three times is about the limit. If you've taken the test twice, a third time is really no different. But looking at your short writeup, I think you were terribly under-prepared. Obviously, I don't know what score you want, but I can pretty much guarantee that you won't score higher than 550. You're blaming the marker and notepad, but in the end, you were probably not prepared.

If I were you, I would take some time, maybe about 2-4 months and really prepare yourself. Forcing yourself to take it a third time, a fourth time or even a tenth time isn't going to magically put you over the top.

I agree with kidderek. It's definitely ok to take it a third time, but you need to properly prepare for it. Definitely give it at least 2-3 months and study strategy, do tons of verbal questions, and take at least 3-4 practice tests.

Since you had a problem at the test center on the second try, with the pen not working, I would report that to GMAC. You may be able to get the score canceled.
