I know there's been threads comparing the CATs in PowerPrep and GMATPrep. But now I want to know if people have recently taken PP and what their scores are and how they correlated to the real thing and maybe the first time you took GMATPrep.
I've been retaking GMATPrep CATs for a while now and hadn't touched PP since I wanted to test my "real" progess on it. A couple of weeks ago I took PP1 and scored 750. Cosidering I didn't see or remember any repeats since the last time I opened the OG was in December, and the fact that I made a stupid mistake on the 1st Quant problem, I was ok with this score. Then I studied for 2 more weeks in which time I retook GMATPrep a couple more times and took 2 MGMAT tests. I thought I was steadily improving on those and decided to take PP2 the other day. Without anything going wrong and no really stupid mistakes, I scored only 730. And this happens one week before the real thing. I am depressed. How can my scores worsen when I've been studying to improve? I'm scared of the real thing now. I have this nightmare that despite the additional 2 months of studying since I took it and scored 730, this time I may actually do worse.... :?

Don't worry too much about your PP scores. PP has significantly different scoring algorithm than GmatPrep. I can easily obtain 770-780 on GmatPrep (probably due to too many repeats) but I can't repeat such a success on PP. Although questions on PP are easier than those on GP, it seems that PP is harsher grader and it seems that is less reliable predictor of your overall score.
So, I found it pretty useless and haven't tried it for months. It seems more usefull to do GmatPrep even with lot of repeats, still PP is 2nd best choice.

My PP scores are generally 20-40 points lower than my GMATPrep scores. I primairly use PP as a change of pace to doing the GMATPrep over and over again. I do find that the PP questions seem easier than the GMATPrep questions. Maybe that is why the PP grading curve seems steeper. You're answering easier questions so your room for error is much more narrow than it is with the GMATPrep. Just a guess.

If you really need to, just peel off a few more 750+'s on the GMATPrep to boost your confidence. Don't sweat the PP. You'll do fine on the real thing!

My PP scores were 40 and 10 pts below my actual, while my GP scores were 30 pts below my actual. So, not that far off for me.

Thanks people. I thought too that the Quant in PP is easier than on GMATPrep but on the Verbal I really see no difference. Anyone disagree? The RC passages in particular are actually longer and some more complicated.
My problem with GMATPrep re-takes is that I've taken each test 4-5 times by now and on the Verbal I keep seeing RC passages and CR questions which I have already seen several times and remember. So, the Verbal is totally useless for me. The Quant not so much, but even there I am starting to get upto 15-20 repeats, basically half of the questions. So, any 750+ score on GMATPrep can't really boost my confidence any more. On the contrary, the fact that even after so many repeats I can't score over 760-770 depresses me. It's like of the 1/2 of the Verbal questions that I hadn't seen in a new test, I'd still make as many mistakes as to get a Verbal of under 44....last time even 41, which ironically was the same I got the first time I took that test....What is wrong with me?
