Hi there,
To begin with let me brief about my background & targets.
I am a IT guy (yes, one more looking to jump up the ladder from the so called elite group) with close to 8 years of experience. I am targeting ISB, IIM-Ahmedabad PGPX & if not the stated 2, then IIM-Calcutta PGPEX as my prime targets. I may also try for a few others like AIM, Manila etc which offer a 1 year course.
I have been preparing for about 1.5 months now using only the Official Guides.
Am yet to start with prep tests & have planned for GMATPrep & the esrtwhile PowerPrep form ETS.
What would be a good score in your opinion & what else should I do to achieve the same?
I also need inputs on the essays to be submitted along with the applications.
Looking forward to your words of wisdom.

I haven't had any first hand experiences with the IIMs or with ISB, however, I've heard that a score of around 720-30 should be good for IIT-PGPEX or ISB, IF you're an NRI (esp overseas citizen with strong OE experiences). Look into the b-school application board for international schools for further info.
