Online Math lessons in exchange for improving speaking

Dear friends!

I've just received my TOEFL score: 96 of 120. I need at least 109. Almost a half of my lost points was in Speaking section (10 points of 24). Main reason for this fail is just absence of practice. To boost my speaking skills I'm just going to realize following idea.

I'm pretty well in Math (Q50 in actual GMAT and Q51/Q50 in GMAPprep) and as you can see from my posts in the Q-forum. Moreover, I was a teacher at university for 3 years. So, I would like to find 1-3 people for exchange. I teach Math in exchange for correction of my speaking during study (accent, punctuation, expressions).

I'm seeking:

Native English speaker (born in the United States) who have excellent knowledge of language and who would like to improve his or her quant score from ~35-45.

format of lessons (preliminary):

1. use of Skype
2. 1-3 times per week
3. 1-3 hours per lesson
4. homework

I know it may be risky, and therefore, I guarantee 3 lessons before making a final decision whether this idea was a good one

walker i can jus give you one suggestion.check out https://www.toastmasters.org. its a community where each one helps other and i was astonished to see the change a person can have,be it from stammering to so much improvement.I know time may be a barrier but every place has a toastmaster club(Started in 1934 i guess).So check out that and i guarantee,yes 100 % guarantee to the math genius that you yourself wont believe that----This is Walker!All the best.Good wishes from all. 8-)

I'd be willing to speak to you via Skype. I'm pretty good at math already (mid- to upper 40's). I can't guarantee the amount of time you need completely, but I'd be happy to help you out just to help you out.

I'm 28 years old, born in the United States. My mother teaches grammar / english composition at a high school here in the U.S. (She taught me to speak and write correctly).

I am an attorney licensed in the state of Oklahoma. Oral communication was a high priority in my education as an attorney.

I've had to reformat my PC at home so I'm accessing the internet via work at the moment. I should have my computer fixed tonight and we can set up a time to talk next week. Will that work for you?

Perfect! We can try. So, I have a few questions: 1. We have to arrange time. Actually, my timetable is very flexible now. 2. Send me your weak area in math and I will prepare a short quiz before appointment in order to have a subject for discussion. Anybody else? :wink:

One suggestion I have for all non-native English speakers that want to improve. Go online and find a talk radio station that broadcasts on the internet. Listen and try to speak what they speak after/while they say it. I suggest "National Public Radio" as they are generally going to use proper grammar. Some talk radio shows are not very concerned with using proper English. It's just an idea I had.

Mmmm, Walker, I'm not sure that online conversation can dramatically improve your non-native verbal skills in a short period. From my exp it'd better just to find a good source of regullar phrases and train by speaking them in order to memorize. You'd be like a robot - how r u? fine, and u? where's a restroom? over there. Could u tell me how many degrees of Celsius below zero are now? I'm not a thermometer 8-)

, etc. It's like to find patterns of speaking, thinking, writing. You can use movies, books with lots of dialogs, textbooks. I'd recommend you "Rosetta Stone" computers course. You might easily find it cauze you're in Kyev and everything is available in Ukraine :lol:
