Well I just bombed a GMAT Focus diagnostic test, and it is quickly coming back to me how much I hate this bleeping exam.
I must be on a completely different wavelength from the GMAT administrators because I don't even understand the score report I got, let alone the questions I answered.
Does anyone have any experience with the GMAT Focus exams? What on earth to the percentages in each "below average, average, etc" section mean in each question category? Is it the probability of my performance in each performance level from each category? ie: X% I am above average in a certain problem type?
Suffice to say, I am still a very middle of the road to slightly better than average GMAT quant scorer. My scaled results were exactly, (if not a little lower) than the range I scored in when I took the test for real.
I really need to get above 80%tile, and I am incredibly discouraged. I feel like my Quant/Verbal mix was a big reason why I couldn't break out of the waitlist at Booth and into the class this fall...

I haven't taken a GMAT Focus yet, so I can't give much inspirational advice on that topic. Without knowing your scores, it's hard to say what the odds are, but you shouldn't be discouraged.
80th Percentile Quant is probably about 48 now. 48 certainly isn't an "easy" target, but you should be able to get to 44/45 within a reasonable amount of time. From 45 -> 48 you'll probably get the most benefit from the GMAT Club Tests, assuming you don't own them already.

I took all three GMAT Focus exams last year and I was very satisfied with them. I took them some 10 days before my actual exam and I have to say that real exam questions are very similar to ones in GMAT Focus, even more similar than to those in GMAT Prep.
Scoring and especially score indication is not the best part of GMAT Focus, I agree with you. For example, score on my first Focus was 46-50. They say you that - your score should be somewhere between 46 and 50 on the real exam. So mine was, I scored 48 couple of days later. Score from the second Focus was much more difficult for interpretation, if not useless, it gave me 41-49. Really? No s..t? My score is going to be somewhere 41 and 49? I had no idea, genius!
That thing is much better as a preparation tool than a score indicator. However, I liked it, at least I could see my answers and analyze where I got wrong, how many time I spent on each question and what areas I had trouble with.
