I think you should definitely try once more. If you only had few repeats in the GMATPrep tests you took prior to test day you obviously should be able to get beyond 700.

From reading your statements it appears that it was pressure (and not a lack of ability/preparation) that got to you on test day.

Two points:

1) I think it is very significant that you didn't have a good nights sleep prior to the test. This deteriorates both your physical and mental condition on test day. If this is a general problem, I would schedule my next test-session in the afternoon as that would probably increase the likelihood of being properly rested on test day.

2) During tests, you should always try to avoid thinking about how you did on previous questions/sections. Such reflections are unambiguously harmful for your total score. It is probably a lot easier said than done - but if such thoughts should appear on your next exam, try to block them out.

Anyway, just my .05!

All the best!

How you high scorers keep your physical and mental senses under control? Are these energy drinks for real to keep high concentration level? Any valuable inputs would be appreciated. Shall I go for another round or just put this score report in a trash and forget about MBA from a good school altogether?

Hey getmba - I'm sorry to hear about your disappointment. I can't really advise as I have not taken the exam yet but it seems like you put in a lot of solid work and probably feel awful right now and giving up. I would say if you really want to get an MBA don't let this one thing get you down. Sure this feeling sux, but in a day or two you'll feel better. I would definitely say take a few days off, enjoy yourself, go out and do things that make you happy, after that, assess your strategy and go for it again!
All the best to you.

getmba - from your description it sounds like you prepared well for the knowledge aspect of it, but let the sort of intangibles (nerves, lack of sleep, having to go to the bathroom, etc) get to you. i think with only minor preparation academically you can achieve your desired scores. just make sure you learn from your last experience so that all the other stuff won't affect you the next time you take it. definitely try and schedule it in the afternoon - this was the best decision i could make. i had a lot of trouble sleeping the night before also, and even if i were a morning person, i probably would have done poorly if i had taken the test on only a couple of hours of sleep.

Thanks for your suggestions - andershv, yangsta8, and shadowsjc. Awesome advice. I am trying to stay relaxed for now, and probably will make a decision in next few days.

Hi getmba, i'm really sorry to hear that. Since you had been scoring very well in GMATPrep tests you surely have the potential to get much better score.

I would say a good night sleep is really essesntial, not only a day before the GMAT but also while preparing for your exams. This is all for the scientific reason that during sleep our brain processes lot of memories. At this time our brain kindda filters and arranges all our memories and learnings. If you are practising something in the evening and then go to sleep, your brain will keep on practising the same thing whole night making that skill stronger the next morning you wake up.

For getting a good sleep, all you need to do is relax. I would suggest indulge in your favourtite hobby whenever you are feeling tensed due to GMAT preparation. In my case I had installed computer games on my laptop and used to play the game every other day. A day or two before actual test take your time to relax, do light revision, go out have some fun and sleep tight at the night :)

All the best.

Hi getmba

Sorry to listen about your score, but according to me you should give GMAT a third and a final try..
Seeing your performance in gmat prep and MGMAT's i would definitely suggest you to go forward.

I would recommend you one technique but i don't know wheter it will work on each and every individual.
My plan is that whenever you attemp the prep's or an other CAT.
Give it under pressure...as in whenever you are tired or your mind is dead...
see it's very logical by the time we reach to the verbal section our mind somewhat slow's down...
I mean the neuron firing tends to slow down...

So if we can make our brain work in pressure cooker like situation i.e train the brain to respond even if fatigue take it's toll
then i think we can manage the timing and the pressure..

When at home, may be you time yourself or not but there is a kind of a comfort zone, nobody is monitoring you and again the mind gets relaxed and thus you start performing well.

So my suggestion is train your brain to workkkkk in pressurized situations and i am sure you will emerge as a winner.

Even i am going to attempt the GMAT for the fourth and the final time..and this time i'll make GMAT cry.

All the best........

I received my AWA Score - 5.5
Only bright spot in this attempt. I increased it by 1 point since my last attempt. Nonetheless, it doesn't add any value to the real thing.
