Feel free to move this thread if I placed it improperly.
Anyways, I'm considering taking the GMAT again. A little bit on my background:
Age: 25
Demo: Caucasian
Undergrad: University of Nevada, Reno Major: Economics
Work History:
.25 years: loan officer with small mortgage company
1.25 years: research analyst at a multimedia publication; conducted interviews with MNF's and emerging market firms
I've been out of work since Nov 2008. I left my analyst position after an accident that had me laid up for four months. Took a Kaplan prep course in July 2009
GMAT History: October 3 09, 620 q-39 v-36 AWA 5.5
Circumstances: GMAT appt was scheduled to be canceled due to a/c being down on test date; took the test anyway to apply r1 to Claremont/ Drucker and LMU
Test conditions definitely affected my performance but it was mostly my nerves and not the heat that beat me.
My question is whether I should retake:
I've been accepted at Claremont and LMU but I'm not sure I can justify the expense for those programs. In any case, I know the longer I am out of work the weaker my app becomes. I still have an app out at Thunderbird.
At my Kaplan course I began scoring at a 550 and gradually worked my way up to the 670 range.
I haven't studied since I took the GMAT in October focusing mostly on the application process and doing a little too much surfing. Living in socal has its distractions.
Anyways, I feel like I could put in 4-5 weeks of solid studying to get a better look from schools in the 30-50 range for Fall 2010.
My questions are:
Would a 650 be a realistic goal given my past performance and allotted study time?
Are better programs within my reach with my current score than the ones to which I have applied, given my time out of work?
Basically, would retaking the GMAT be justified given my background?
I know these are somewhat nebulous questions but I know this community can give me some insight.
Thanks guys, this forum has been an incredible resource.
