I wrote my first GMAT yesterday and scored a 640 (Q49,V28) on the test. This was a shock because I have nerver scored this low on my prep test. The verbal score was really unexpected.
After AWA, I took my break. Since I couldn't bring a watch or anything, and the clock in the test facility isn't that accurate, I ended up taking 10 minutes for the break, which meant that I only had 73 minutes for my quant section. That made me panick just a little. The first question really threw me off, it was simplification of a fraction with a lot of radicals, I just got confused so it take a few minutes to figure it out. As I was going through the quant, I thought it felt more difficult, but that could just be my nerve since I was very anxious. I finished off quant just in time, did not get any probability or combination questions, I thought I bombed the quant section.
Took another break, this time made sure I was back on time. Started off my verbal section with a SC question. For some reason, this question seemed really difficult and took me a while to figure it out. THen all the other questions on the verbal section seemed really hard. This is weird because usually I do really well on the SC at least, but there were a few SC questions that I just couldn't figure out for the life of me. I am sure that I wasted some time on those questions, which meant that I was behind in timing, so I guessed a few questions, especially on RC. This whole time, I was thinking, oh man...I just bomed on my verbal, and almost just wanted to get the test over and done with.I finished my verbal just in time, I knew I did not manage my time well, felt rushed and had to guess on a few questions.
I took the pratice test just once that simulated the real test, with the essays and all. I guess the problem is that I never had enough practice writing on the whole thing, so even though I did the verbal section well enough on its own, it's not reflective of the actual performance, since the test gets a little draining after quant. Any advice? THe lowest I got on the verbal was 31, so 28 was little shocking.
I took all the
MGMAT, but didn’t do them in a time condition and chopped up the section, since I didn’t have time to writing the whole sitting in one sitting. The only thing I can think of for preparation now is just to sit down and write the whole thing, with AWA, I think I need to get myself use to this long process.
I knew that I need to get like a 36 on verbal to get to 700, at a quant of 49, so it’s tough, because I averaged about 33 on verbal, but 28 was just unexpected.
Maybe you could shed some light on what I could do to get a better score next time?
Thank you for reading, I know this is a tough process for everyone, it's literally draining both emotionally and physically, but I think the second time around preparation won't be as tough as the first time, as I took 2 weeks off to study for this.
