Hello everybody.
I'm from Brazil and I'm applying this year to most of the top schools. I had the Gmat in March/09 and scored 700 (50Q 34V 4.5 AWA) on my first attempt.
I was willing to take the test the 2nd time because I think I can improve my verbal (although in my practice tests my verbal scores did vary a lot so I can not be sure I can really improve it).
I really want to know if (1) I send now my 700 score to all schools I'm going to apply to, (2) make another attempt in March/10 and (3) don't send the report of this second test right next what the ad-com will see: only the initial 700?
My purpose is only send the second score if it is better than 700, and I don't want to let them see a worse score if that's the case.
Thanks in advance for your help!!
João
Hi João,
At the end of the exam, before you see your final score, you will be given the option to accept the score or not. If you accept the score, then that score will be visible to schools. If you do not accept the score, then schools will still see that you took the exam twice but they will simply not see the second score. Some schools may not look favorably on the cancellation of the second score.
With a score of 700, it may not be worth it to retake unless your top 5 target schools' average GMAT score is 760 or better. However, if you do not intend to apply this year, you might decide to do so to make your candidacy slightly more competitive. If you're applying this year, really focusing on your essays and your fit with the program will probably be a better use of your time.
