Background:I'm an Electronic Engineer from Venezuela. Graduated in 2005 and worked in several Telecommunication companies throughout for the past 5 years (Huawei, Nokia and 3Com). Modestly good career history, Started as an Telecom Installation and Commissioning Engineer, and then continued as Senior Engineer, Team Leader and Junior Project Manager. After moving to the UK, I'm back at Senior Engineer and working my way up.
Also, I have helped my father with his business and turned it into a profitable restaurant within the biggest University in Vzla. Now I partly own it. So there's a bit of entrepreneurship in the mix.
I graduated in 6 years instead of 5 with a horribly low GPA (3.4/5). During those years, I had to take care of a very sick relative and couldn't excel as I otherwise would have. On my last year and a half in Uni, my mother recovered and my grades were outstanding, even when doing almost two semesters in one. I can explain this easily on an essay.
GMAT:First time: 700 (Q45, V40). I thought I could do much better, especially in Quant, and re-took it.
Second Time (last week): 680 (Q49, V34). I did better in Math alright, but Verbal killed me. :S I know I can do better, much better.
My goal is to attend a Top 10 school, but I am not sure that I will be accepted with such a low GPA if my GMAT is not stronger. What do you guys think? Should I retake it? I'm staying up at night biting my elbows trying to find the answer to this question.
Taking my best score from each section I could have reached 740, and I know I still have plenty of room to improve in Verbal.
Regards,
Dan.
