Hi Everyone,
I took the GMAT today for the first time and scored a 710 (95th percentile verbal, 74th quant). I am happy that I broke the 700 barrier but am disappointed because a 710 was definitely towards the bottom of the range I was hoping to score in. I took seven practice tests prior to test day and scored from a 710 to 760 on everyone. I was also pretty surprised about my low quant score, but I guess test day is just different from the practice runs. With that in mind, I would really appreciate your advice about whether I should consider retaking the test or be happy with my score.
I am currently a senior Economics major at an Ivy League school, and I expect to graduate with a 3.6 GPA. Next year I am working in the M&A group at a top tier bulge bracket investment bank. I plan on applying to business school after either the two year analyst program at my firm, or further down the road after an additional stint at a Private Equity shop or hedge fund.
I am definitely hoping to gain admission to top-5 business schools and I would really appreciate everyone's honest opinion regarding my profile. Would a 740+ really bolster my chances at HBS, Wharton and Columbia, or am I fine with a 710?

You would be better of spending your time bolstering your resume, i.e., taking leadership roles, extracurriculars, etc. In other words find ways to differentiate yourself. A higher gmat will not necessarily differentiate you from the rest of the crowd.

Then if you have time then maybe take it again. Maybe sneak in some study time here and there. I don't think it will be a deal breaker. Just my opinion.
