Hello. I took my test for the first time on 5/20/10. It's been 5 years removed out of school so the rust was there. I studied for about 1 and a half months before the test. I studied the OG 12, and all MGMAT books (minus Geometry). I downloaded the test prep and did that about 2-3 times. I did not do any of the MGMAT tests.
During the test, I did run out of time on the verbal (had to free guess like 6-8 questions). Also, there were quite a few math questions I had to make educated guesses on.
My plan and new strategy is to read all the MGMAT books first to build fundamentals. I will also go through all the OG 12 problems, and both OG Q and V books. The biggest thing I want to work on are the simulated tests to build recognition for timing and pacing. I will take GMAT Prep Tests and all 6 MGMAT Tests. Is there anything else I need to do?
I want to take the test in early/mid September, so I have about 1 1/2- 2 months to prepare.
My goal is to score or exceed a 600.

Be careful about doing an endless supply of questions. Definitely do the GMAT Prep software exams and some practice with Official Guide questions.
But if you find yourself not making any improvements, chances are you need to change your thinking process. You'd be surprised at how many students mistakenly believe that doing thousands of practice questions will necessarily mean a better score. So just watch out for that trap. Do some practice questions and get a feel for the questions. If you feel yourself reaching a ceiling, look for someone to help you change your thought process.
