World came crashing down on 3rd June as after around 3 months of hard work and more importantly neglecting my office work...i scored
GMAT 1 570- Q 44; V 24.
GMAT 2 680 - Q47; V 37
A little about the catastrophe and how it led me to where i am today!!
That verbal score earlier was abysmal , specially given the environment we work in ( though m non native ,but still rampantly use English)
Had it not been for my wife's advice i would have given up the pursuit of GMAT - Retake and may be MBA in toto; Not doubting my ambition for an MBA, but such was the insult of not scoring well in GMAT that I experienced one of lowest of Lows of my life. I started cursing myself for wasting 3 months on this, rather than taking a holiday or concentrating more on work.
Deep inside i Knew I was not completely truthful to self....That i was not fully prepared....Slowly and surreptitiously I started reading the GMAT club's retaking threads, the confidence started to come back, but still not enough to shove myself in to a month or two of more rigorous training or study. GMAT MUST UNDERSTAND HOW TAXING IT IS FOR WORKING EXECS, TYPICALLY IN MIDDLE MANAGEMENT CADRE( MY CASE 7 YR OF EX) TO GO back and learn the number of perfect squares and the properties of triangles....
BUT...I REALIZED my mistake...I had studied hard...studied everything under the SUN...BUT missed THE OG material.....THANKS A TON TO GMAT CLUB that immediately pointed out this flaw and I grabbed all the OG's under the sun, the 11's the 12's.
I registered for GMAT 2 on 10th June , still with a slightly weak heart, ( I could not tell my mom that i had scored a 570- HOW can a Mom's hero score below 600!!!!) But i knew i dint have too much time, so i gave myself 44 days and reiterated it to myself...THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE DUDE.....I tried to correct my mistakes ( May be of most of the people who have a higher work exp)..I always ridiculed the RC's and Cr's saying , this is what i do day in and day out... this is no big deal....RIGHT We do it DI & DO but not in 2 min !!!!
I think some things that helped me in this journey were :
1) Focused, Smart hard work
2) Determination & family support.
3) OG
4) GMAT club
5) GMAT Prep
6) My boss!!
Finally my quant went so well i thought i was gonna break all records...( still wondering , which questions may have gone wrong? ) I finished with a good 15 min to spare...!! May be that happiness did me in , in my verbals....i got in to a vicious cycle of time pressure and accuracy..
Cant write more....its 2 am here in India and I need to focus more on work now.
hope debrief helps some of the disheartened first timers...
