I took the test today after studying for a month and got a 27 on verbal. I never got more than 32 in any of the gmatprep or mgmat tests that I took.
RC and CR are my weak areas. I use the elimination technique just like everybody else. On half of the questions that I get wrong in a timed test, I eliminate the right answer as not a contender and on the other half of the questions that I get wrong I pick the wrong answer from contenders. I have seen this trend, thinking that Im doing good, in the 4 times I took the gmatprep test 1 ( 30,28,31,32) and in mgmat tests (28-31). My accuracy is pretty good when doing questions from OG. Verbal in the actual gmat test today was similar to the verbal on gmat prep, and I knew I was doing the same mistakes.
My plan now for the next 1 month:
Quant:
Redoing the gmat club quant tests, 1 test everyday, and reducing the number of silly mistakes that I do, specially in the 1st 10 qs.
Verbal:
I know Im not going to score more than 35 unless I improve my english comprehension. I havnt read a single book in my life so far, besides school/college text books. I always used to wonder how people could read books, as if the college text books were not enough. I just find reading too boring.
Im going to barnes and noble tomorrow morning and buying "the great gatsby". Im going to regulary read everyday from now on.
I will do the og again. I will give 1 test every weekend. I will take gmat prep again in a month and if im getting more than 35 on verbal , I will take the gmat.
I was planning on applying in R1 but now it all depends on my gmat score. If everything works out according to the plan, I will give the test on around 20th sep and apply in R1, otherwise I will apply in R2. This is the only year when im gonna apply for an mba. Its either this year or its never happening. Im 27 right now and dont want to be 31 by the time I complete an MBA.
Any advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Just an FYI, I already read the "test retaking thread".

Ankur, I think you are definitely going in the right direction now. Actually, if you are scoring low on something then it is the easiest to improve. Please try to put more efforts in Verbal and analyze where you are making mistakes.
Regarding RC, i use rhyme's strategy and it works for me. Try to read several posts in Verbal forums and try practicing with it. also do more tests and analyze your problem areas.
I am getting scoring in mid-30's in verbal now. How was ur verbal experience compared to GMAT Prep?

Frankly this is not going to help improve your reading comprehension. Though it will give you a good appreciation of literature and will perhaps kickstart your reading habit.
You can improve your reading comprehension skills for the GMAT by critically reading (what's the author's point of view, change of thought, examples etc.) articles from the Economist, Scientific American, Wall Street Journal etc. Articles from these magazines/journals/papers are generally edited by GMAT writers for the reading comprehension section.
