...For me the verbal section was not too difficult. I am currently a teacher in China and I have correct English writing assignments for a few friends. With the difference in languages there are many errors with idioms and with plural/singular verbs and subjects. So this gave me practice.

For non-native speakers, I highly recommend you read The Bottom Billion by Paul Collier. It is interesting and it helps you to understand many of the possible errors in reasoning you will face on the GMAT. Plus it is written with some complex vocabulary that will help you develop your writing skills.

Congratulations! Your verbal score is really impressive. Did you follow a particular strategy for the RC and CR section of the test?

As far as the RC and CR sections. I found the Manhattan GMAT guides to be very helpful.

On my first few practice sets I was missing at least 2 questions on each RC passage, and 1 or 2 on the out of 5 on the CR section.

During the test. I did the following:
After knowing the I did not do super on the quantitative section, I took about 3 minutes after the quantitative to prepare for the verbal.

1st minute was all cursing and anger.
2nd minute I got my game plan together.
3rd minute I kept repeating the game plan and trying to visualize success.

I tried to make the game plan simple:
For RC read the 1st question before the passage
For CR read the question you have to answer, then go back to the rest of the stem.
For SC read the original then scan for differences in the choices

I think a big part of my success on the RC and CR was I looked for the keyword first. Words like (support, strengthen, would agree, in the passage). To keep track I would write down that word.

"Strengthen"

Then in my head I would paraphrase "Strengthen what?"

So despite whatever trickery in words they tried to use I would at least be on the right track.

Another thing I think is important for non native speakers....
on a couple of the questions, especially when they say which of the following would best....
there will be two choices that seem to be possible correct answers, on a few of them I thought to myself "damn that is mean".

If my selections were correct, which it seems most were....the best answer contained a word that is less frequently used, but most accurate in common American English usage.

I should have written it down to be sure, but the correct answer used something like "misconception". And the other good choice used the word "wrong" or something similar. If English is your second language I guess studying common prefixes and suffixes will definitely help.

If you want practice, let me know. I will have a few hundred answers to short answer questions from tests I will be giving my Chinese students in the next few months.

Thank you for the answers. On the practice questions, unfortunately I don't have too much time since I'll be taking the exam in a month's time.

Does anyone else who scored well feel like that did not see many difficult questions in the OG's?

yeah OG quant is useless. Better to rely on gmatprep tests' quant. and to solve MGMAT n GC quant questions.
