Hi Hjort,
First of all, I would like to commend you for your excellent advice to prospective MBA students.
I am looking for some help with my school selection.
My Profile:
Male, Indian , 25 years old
Education: Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Telecommunications) from Bombay University. Ranked in top 2% of university
Experience: Almost 3.5 years. Will be 4+ years in Fall 2006.
Worked in a multi-billion dollar Indian IT company тАУ 3 years .
Currently working in a small US IT product company тАУ 6 months to date.
Total international experience : 1 year (US only)
Test Scores : GMAT : 780 Q:50, V:48
Extra curricular activities : Active in Trivia / Quizzing .Won a number of contests at the university level as well as representing my previous company.
Community Service: Nothing to write home about, but planning to remedy that soon.
Selection criteria :
I am looking at primarily US colleges with a strong program in Finance .
Prefer colleges that offer aid/scholarships.
My shortlist so far :
Chicago-GSB, NYU-Stern , Sloan, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Darden, Cornell, Kenan Flagler ,Rochester , Duke
I know it a long list rather than a short list, but that is where I need some guidance
Potential problems in my applications:
My Community Service is not stellar.
I am not too sure of my recommendation at my new company because they are likely to be pissed that I am going to be quitting for an MBA (I have only been there for 6 months so far).
Distinguishing myself from the rest of the Indian male IT pool is a factor
Keeping all this in mind , what are your views on my competitiveness at the schools mentioned above?
Are there any universities that I should be knocking off/adding to the list ?
Additionally do you have any suggestions for тАЬsafeтАЭ schools and/or schools where I could have a decent shot at aid/scholarships?

Penn is a clear school to consider. How would you link your present career with your interest in Finance? What subfield or career path in Finance interests you?

Yes Penn is a great school too .Do you think I have a reasonable chance there?
The client I worked with in my previous company was a Financial major .I have some fairly specialized domain knowledge in a few niches of the Financial services industry.
As far as career paths, I am leaning towards Corporate Finance .
