Hi,
I just took my first GMAT test end of last month and got an unsatisfactory score of 690 (Q49, V34) so I decide to take it again either on Nov 21 or Dec 6 since those are 2 available nearest dates. I target to apply to 4 schools in the top five. However, I wonder, from your experience, do you think how effective it is to do school applications and study for GMAT at the same time? I would appreciate some advice.

It is not easy to do both at the same time but it can be done. Since the two tasks require such different skills some people find it oddly comforting to set down their GMAT books to work on the essays for a few hours.

Thank you for your promt reply. The reason I asked that question was because I actually need to decide my second test date by tomorrow. I consider my app situation now quite critical. If I am to take the test on Nov 21, I have about one week left, and I am afraid of not being able to reach my dream score (700+) or even not get more than my previous score (690). However, I am quite unfortunate to find that the next available test date is 3 weeks away (Dec 6) and I might need to start my school app in parallel. I aim to apply to HBS, Wharton, Sloan, and Kellogg.
I wonder, in your opinion, what is the minimum amount of time to spend on school applications to these schools? Your advice might help me in deciding my test date.
