Hjort/All-
I need some advice regarding my chances of getting into some of the ultra-elite and elite b-schools. Here is the list of schools I'd like to attend.
1) Stanford
2) MIT Sloan
3) UC-Berkeley
(unsorted below)
4) Columbia
5) Northwestern
6) Dartmouth
7) U of Chicago
8) NYU
9) Duke
I've taken the GMAT twice so far and scored a 640 both times with fairly different V/Q mixes. The first time was a 44Q/34V and the second time was a 49Q/29V. I'd really like to take the GMAT again because I'm sure I can bring my verbal up to a 38 or so, but I need more time. However, most (if not all) of the schools listed above have second-round deadlines within the next few weeks which doesn't leave me enough time to study for another attempt at the GMAT.
Do I take my chances with my GMAT score 'as-is' and hope for the best in the second-round or should I retake the GMAT and go for the third round? I am very concerned that waiting until the third round will make it VERY difficult for me to get into one of the schools listed above. I've read that places like Stanford have LESS than 1% of their total spots unfilled in the third round. Please give me your thoughts.
Some other info to fill in more details.
