I have two options for the Wharton "personal characteristic/something else in your background" essay.
Based on comments on other websites I can write about a extra curricular interest that i am deeply involved with (solid content)
I also have the option of writing about a peronal attribute.
Both aspects are untouched in other essays. (the second one is sort of implied in another essay)
what in your opinion has a better impact. Is it foolish to write about an interest here since the essay intends to help the adcom "know me better"

I might be misreading your question but your interests are a useful way of helping the admissions officers learn more about you. Accordingly, it does not seem foolish to me to write about a personal/extracurric interest.
