Hi Hjort,
According to the school site, the average age of a full-time student is 26. I'm in the process right now of selecting strong general management/finance schools to apply to for Fall 2007, and my minor concern is that I'll be 29 by the time I start school. I know from reading other posts that Stanford & HBS prefer younger applicants. Provided that I articulate clear goals in my essays, should I still consider applying to this school? Thanks.

I have not heard of Cornell being biased against "older" students. Besides, 29 is not considered very old for most schools in the top few clusters. Unlike some people, I do not find those "demographics as destiny" arguments convincing. While factors like age and nationality certainly play a role in admissions the vast majority rejections seem to occur based on a lack of addressing the major admissions risks and poorly articulated goals.

Thanks for the quick response. My main focus now will be to nail the GMAT and refine my goals before the earliest application rounds for my school choices.
One other question regarding school visits. Is it good to visit schools lower on my list before visiting my top 2 choices? Cornell & the part-time Haas program are my top 2 right now. I read this in the Montauk book, and a friend in Olin told me that schools will make a mental note when you visit, so I'd naturally want to make a good impression.
