I am an RF Engineer working as a technology consultant for a well known business and technology company in the US. Iam planning to apply for B schools (2008) but Iam most bothered about my extracurricular and community service activites. I really do not have any credentials on these activities to boast off in my application and would like to know if there are ways to get involved into these activites given my profile . Will this really affect my chances to gain admission to top Bschools? My job requires 100% travel with projects all over the country and Iam not quite sure how I can compensate or gain exposure to such activities/services even if I want to. Please advise.I would really appreciate your help.

Are you deployed on site for several months at time or do you travel 100% of the workweek but return to your home office every weekend?

Sorry I could not get back to you on this. Yes Iam deployed as long as the project lasts and return to my home base after it gets over. What do you suggest?

Let's try approaching this from the other direction- if you had the time and geographic stability what type of volunteer/community activity would you like to do?

Hi Hjort,
Well Iam a IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers ..which is World's largest professional body with over 50,000 members)member for the past 4 years and participated in some of the networking and seminars that take place every month only a few times.Since my project goes on for anywhere from 2-6 months at a strech Iam unable to participate in such activities as well. So Iam trying to get involved through the internet where there are opportunities for guys like us who can put some of our time to such causes. Besides that, I am a World Wildife Fund (WWF) member as well acting as an Activist to some of the causes WWF is involved in. I generally get emails to support WWF activities and I do so by simply signing and sending some emails. But Iam not sure how effective these can be for me to show when applying to different B schools. I want to get involved but due to my job Iam unable to and even during the period Iam off at different places I am not sure how I can spend some time on such activities. Inspite of these bottlenecks I am still trying out to see if there is anyway I can get involved in the local chapters where I live during my projects. I hope I've given you some information for you to have an idea.Appreciate your feedback.
