Quick background - 3.5 gpa undergrand from state school, MSF from BC, 2 years in IB and will have 2+ yrs at top 3 HF by the time I would enter in Fall 2007. I'm trying to think through the +/-'s of going back to school. I think I could get a good job after the HF exposure here, but just don't really know what I want to do "when I grow up". I think b-school would be a great time and place to learn about other career options and get some perspective on life. I would have to give up 2 years of making very good money while taking on loans for tuition, etc, but really think i would benefit personally and professionally from taking a step back from the working world for a couple years. (There is so much life to catch up on when you work 80+ hrs/wk....) Other problem is that I really only think it would be worth it if I went to a top 3-5 school, but given my lack of time to study and rest, I'm a bit worried about getting a great score on the GMAT and having time for essays, etc. Add in the fact that my wife and I are expecting our first chold in Sept of '06 and it gets even more confusing. Well, basically this was just a way to vent, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1) I encourage you to talk to people in a wide variety of industries to see what appeals to you. It is clearly not a crime to enter an MBA program with no clear idea of what you want to do, but I think it is a good idea to use your time now to do some exploration.
2) As usual, I cannot really say whether it makes sense to get an MBA for any individual. If the jobs that appeal to you in the long run require an MBA, the case for an MBA is clearly stronger.
3) While this might not be a concern for you at this time, many MBA applicants and students have young children. It is not easy (if being a parent of a newborn ever is) but many people people find effective ways to combine studying and parenting.
