Hello!
So I am a complete newbie at the GMAT game, and I'm hoping to get some background info on the beast. Here are some quick ones off the top of my head: (please keep in mind that I am, like everyone, aiming at the top schools in the country... Harvard mainly!)
1. How long are GMAT scores good for?
2. When can one take the GMAT (out of the average year)? I know its a computer based test, so does that mean it is available to take every month?
3. How many times do successful top b-school applicants take the GMAT?
4. What is the average time/age that successful applicants take the GMAT? During college?

1. Usually five years
2. Check the MBA.com website for scheduling information
3. It really depends- some take the test just once, others take it three or so times.
4. I have not encountered many people who take the test in college although this was very common in the early 1980s. In more recent years, I believe the most common age is several years after leaving college. GMAC has data on the age of test takers, if you are interested.

Hey Hjort, thanks for the reply! The gmac provided a lot of enlightening information. Turns out that nearly 50% of those who took the test were ages 24-30. Those under the age of 24 were about 17%.
I wonder why there are so many people who delay taking the test until well after their graduation. Is it more difficult to study for such an exam when one is working and no longer in "the school mode"? What do you guys think?
Also, do the elite schools look down on applicants who take the GMAT multiple times?
