Hi everyone.
This is my first post on the forum. I browse it for 2 days, and found it very instructive from my French student point of view.
I would like to get informations about HBS / Stanford application.
I'm 22 and I graduated in Business Law from Panthéon-Assas (Paris 2, one of the leading law school in France) and in Accounting and Finance (Got 2 of the 3 levels guiding to French Chartered Accountant). I followed those two educations simultaneously.
I have no professional experience apart from summer internships in IFRS accounting.
I intend to work as a lawyer in top law firms, and i would appreciate a job in US/UK firms based in Paris. I lack an education in business, finance and strategy, and i know i could get the best one in HBS or Stanford MBA.
I read on HBS' website, as well on Stanford's one that the schools didn't much care about professionnal experience, but was looking for "leadership potential".
My question is simple: given the fact that i'm taking the Gmat in the next few months, and hoping that i could get some 700+ (hope, friends, hope...), is my application to HBS / Stanford credible and would it get a chance to be successful, considering my previous education?

I think it would be incorrect to think that Harvard and Stanford don't "much care about professional experience". I think the correct assessment would be that these schools value professional experience as much as almost every other top business school, but that they are willing to consider exceptional students without typical experience if they have outstanding leadership potential (and history). I believe that even with increased acceptance of students without typical experience, fewer than 2% of the students at Harvard are admitted straight out of college (these number may be slightly different).
Harvard and Stanford are the two most selective business schools in the US, and my impression is that in order to be admitted straight out of college, you need to have near perfect credentials outside of work experience. Probably very near 4.0 GPA, and a 700 GMAT just wouldn't be that impressive in this circumstance, 780-800 sounds about right. Then throw in stellar leadership experience in college, elite recommendations and world class essays and interviews.
Even candidates that are strong in every aspect of the application process have probably no better than 40-50% chance of admission to those schools. Throw out work experience and everything else must literally be perfect to have any chance at all.
