Hello Hjort,
My ultimate goal is Venture Capital, my GPA was 3.8, my GMAT is 750, and so my intermediate goal is getting into Harvard or Stanford.
I’m 23 and only have a year of work experience (and I couldn’t find normal work for a year after graduation), so I would assume it is too early to apply (please correct me if I’m wrong). However, my concern is whether the quality of my job experience will be sufficient when the quantity will be…
Right now I am working as a Logistics Analyst in a young distribution company supplying cables to the US wind farm industry. The company is doubling its turnover every year while maintaining a relatively small staff, so I had to do all of the following (my resume cited):
(*) Maintained efficiency of logistics operations by establishing new and supporting existing relationships with freight brokers and warehouse management
(*) Ensured timely deliveries by planning and executing all operations, including procurement, import/export arrangements, storage and shipping
(*) Processed both purchasing and selling transactions: issued PO’s, invoices, received merchandise, etc.
(*) Was responsible for communications with clients and customer support
(*) Supported Sales team by performing engineering analysis as per customers’ specifications and providing technical information to the customers.
The job is extremely high pressure and fast-paced with some overtime (about 45-50 hrs/week). The company is not widely known, but is doing remarkably well. The pay is relatively low, I’m not sure if this is a factor the schools will look at. There is no room for promotion in the near future, so I will probably be doing more of the same over the next 1-2 years.
Is this experience of interest to the Ultra Elites? Or should I rather try to get into consulting, for instance, using my GMAT scores?
Thank you very much in advance.
