As an admissions professional, I need your opinion on this:
I am a female (ethnic) that will be applying to part-time programs at business schools out-of-state. I intend on finding employment in that state or have my job transfer me to an office there. The reason why I am pursuing my education in one state instead of my home state is simply because I choose to. If Im making a big investment on my education, I want to pick a school and location of my choosing, taking all risks that come with it. There are plenty of good schools in my state, however at this point in my life, I choose to start a new life elsewhere.
Last night I attended an MBA event here in my city. There were two schools there I am intending on applying to:
School A and
School B .
School A gave a great pitch and I feel confident about applying to their program.
On the other hand,
School B was a negative experience. I felt that the admissions representative was trying to steer me away from applying. When I mentioned that I was considering applying to the part-time program at
School B, he told me that he doesnt think applying there is worth the investment of me moving. He said the economy is lagging (which I find a bit doubtful) and with the part time program I wont get any much financial aid (I wasnt expecting much aid anyway due my salary) and I cant switch to full time (which I wasnt even intending to do anyway). He did say that since im a female and ethnic, I do have a good shot of getting in, however he said he doesnt think that me attending the school part-time is worth it.
Basically
School Bgave me all these negatives to applying to the school's part-time program. I mean he didnt even ask me anything about myself so that he can form a better opinion of my situation. I thought that an Admission Representative's job was to promote the school entirely and direct any negatives about a schools program in a positive way? My opinion on
School B is very skewed now.
Here are my questions for you
**Should I get a second opinion? I dont want to base my decision to apply due to a negative experience, but then again if they have someone like that representing the school....
**Also I want to note that
School A is
School B'scompetitor. Since Im definately applying to
School A should I take advantage of the negative experience with
School B and express it in the essay for
School A?
Thank you
