Hey everybody.
Oooooh so close!!!!!..thats what I felt on seeing that screen. The verbal spoiled it for me me. The surprising part is that I was more comfortable in verbal than quant. Its mixed feelings for sure, but I guess it is more gloom than glee. I am writing this only because I feel so indebted to all of you. Thank you so much for being there.
The test:
Quant:
It was very different from the majority of the prep material out there. In the quant, it was all number theory. No probability, 1 distance, 1 mixture, 3 geometry, 1 series. So you can see, it was number theory all the way. Probably there were some concepts being tested and my pea brain didn’t comprehend that. The thing is, at no time during the quant section, I felt confident.
Verbal:
The journey was good. The end was horrible.
Except for the SC’s, I feel everything was OK.
The RC’s were cordial. The CR’s were clear. No sweat.
SC’s - Absolute Yuck. Either all the 5 options were correct or all of them were wrong. It is just that the questions were a lot trickier.
What I wouldn’t do!!!
And this is not to scare anyone. It is good to know the field before the game.
For quant
Don’t get into a rhythm. Don’t follow a pattern of studying. Surprise yourself. Look at different types of problems, different concepts. Kaplan, Princeton can take you only so far. Unless you are a genius like a lot of people here, you got to dig deeper. I haven’t looked at challenges. But I guess they do the job well. Clear your concepts as you go along. Don’t wait your concepts to be clear for attacking the problems. That is the mistake I made.
For Verbal
SC:
The number of questions practiced is not a determinant of success in the test. It has been mentioned 100 times on this forum. I didn’t take it too seriously.

1000’s-SC,RC and CR.
Test scores:

PR2 590
PR3 640

I have included only what I looked for in a post. Feel free to ask questions, if you have any.
I need one advice:
Personally I feel I could be at 720-730. I want to take it again. What do you guys think. Would an extra 30-40 points really matter.
Moreover, as you guys can see, my V is 76%. I heard that an 80-80 split is more welcome.

I don't think I would retake if I were you. I got a 710 on the real test and had gotten 730 and 760 on GMATPrep. It sounds like you were in the same boat as me -- doing slightly worse on the actual test than GMATPrep had predicted. I know a guy who got a 690, then retook 3 more times... his scores afterwards: 680, 670, 660... in that order. I know it's hard to be right on the cusp of the 700 and walk away, but I would if I were you. I think it would look alot worse for you to go down.
An important consideration is what schools you are targeting and their average scores. A 690 is a very good score for many schools, and if you have some unique things to talk about in your apps, then it is competitive at the elite schools. I know a guy who went to Wharton with a 690. He had some unique things to discuss, but your score puts you in the range of the top schools, unless you must compensate for a low GPA or something like that.
So, overall, I would recommend that you not retake. One final consideration -- did you exhaust the study materials the first time around? This is another important consideration, since you've got to have a reasonable way to prepare for the next round. Good luck whatever you decide.

I got a 690 and I am not sure whether or not I should be surprised at the split- Got 49 in Quant and 35 in Verbal- the same as you have scored. My heart sunk too when I saw my score on the screen. in fact I was utterly dissappointed for a few hours after the test, until I spoke to a friend, who pacified me by shooting examples of some people who have gone places with a score of 670/680.
Anyway, I was also thinking about retaking the test. Let me know what have you decided and why? As of now, I am back to my work and music.
I used to better in Quant and a slighly better off in Verbal, while taking mock-tests. I think I lost on time during my actual GMAT. The clock was ticking faster than it used to and I had to randomly select the choices for the last 4-5 qns in Quant. Dunno what happened.....
Please let me clear the doubt lingering in my mind- whether it is a good idea to go for it again or not?
