His who needs food post is basically SPOT ON as to the typical consultant day.

Got exactly the same feeling :) I have quite a few friends in consulting/big4, and this absolutely correlates with their ramblings. :)

Sheesh man, I hope you aren't taking that post seriously. The piece is either dripping with satire or the author is completely off base.

That one is basically just a joke. There's little truth to most of whats said there.

You don't work "10 to 15" hours in consulting. You work 60 at least. As for IB, 70 to 80 is low, i think its more like 80 to 90 or more. As for the travel, this stuff about first class is sort of true. You never get booked right into first class, at least no one I know whose worked with Booz, BCG, etc did, and I doubt these guys are. What is likely is that the firm reimburses you for upgrade vouchers, so if there's space, you'll go business class. The hotel quality portion is junk as well, you'll stay in perfectly nice hotels in IB. The palate quality stuff is also a bit over the top - yes, you will eat t-bone steak as often as you like as a consultant, but you wont be downing $2,000 bottles of wine... and dont' think that consultants dont order in chinese while stuck at work late. They do. As for remote work flexibility, its true that consultants are far moer likely to get to work from home on a Friday after a week of travel than an IBer. The 100,000 miles figure re miles is possible, but its not a given.

Take that post with a huge grain of salt, its all just joshing. The hours in MC are real, you wont fly first class, maybe business, otherwise economy plus, you will eat out a lot but you will also eat a lot of chinese food... oh and I almost forgot... the base thing. I disagree with the compensation part - MCs make good money, an associate can expect $110K + bonus at some of these firms. A IBer can expect the same base but a much bigger bonus. They also work 100 hours a week though.

As is everything else on that blog. Its all hyperbole and satire but its alot funnier when it contains a kernel of truth (as many of the entries do). I was interested to see if any of those descriptions and contrasts between MC and IB resonated with rhyme.

As one of the comments mentioned, this seems like a retort to the leveraged sellout blog.

I'm more of a fan of LS, but I guess it depends on which industry you can relate to.

Here is a classic post with some references to Monkey Business, Boiler Room, etc.

Just started checking these blogs out. Similar to Monkey Business or Liars Poker or any other first-hand accounts of these high-powered corporate jobs, it's simultaneously exciting and repulsing. As cool as MC sounds, sometimes I think corporate finance will be a better fit, I'm getting too old for a "cool" job.

Funny!

"Booz (what an appropriate first name)"

Is it really that hard to get into places like McKinsey and Bain?
(Here in Korea, it is. But in the states???)

My bro's in Stanford and he says "anyone can do consulting" so he's thinking of doing something else. Like working for Intel or Google.
