If m is the number of men and w is the number of women at the ceremony, we have to find m:w

From statement I alone, there are 3 times as many women as men at the ceremony.

Therefore, w = 3m. This means \(\frac{w}{m}\) = 3 or m:w = 1:3.
Statement I alone is sufficient. Answer option B, C and E can be eliminated.

From statement II alone, number of women is ¾ the total of men and women at the ceremony.

Therefore, w = ¾ (m+ w). Simplifying,

\(\frac{w }{ (m+w)}\) = \(\frac{3 }{ 4}\) which then simplifies to 4w = 3m + 3w giving us w = 3m.

This is the same information that was given in statement I.
Statement II alone is sufficient. Answer option A can be eliminated.

The correct answer option is D.
