↧↧↧ Detailed Video Solution to the Problem ↧↧↧

We need to find the value of \(|1 - |2 - |3 - |4 – π||||\)

This problem is based on the theory
|x| = x if x ≥ 0
|x| = -x if x ≤ 0

|4 – π| = 4 – π as 4 – π > 0

|1 - |2 - |3 - (4 – π)||| = |1 - |2 - |3 - 4 + π ||| = |1 - |2 - |π - 1|||
= |1 - |2 - (π - 1)|| as π - 1 > 0
= |1 - |2 - π + 1|| = |1 - |3 - π||
= |1 - (-(3 - π)| as 3 - π < 0
= |1 + 3 - π|
= |4 - π|
= 4 - π as 4 - π > 0

So, Answer will be E
Hope it helps!

Asked: What is the value of \(|1 - |2 - |3 - |4 – π||||\) ?

Since π = 3.14
4- π = 4 - 3.14 = .86
|4- π| = .86
|3 - |4 – π|| = |3 - .86| = 2.14
|2 - |3 - |4 – π||| = |2 - 2.14| = .14
|1 - |2 - |3 - |4 – π|||| = |1 - .14| = .86 = 4 - π

Why at this step of calculation, is the modulus taken negative?
(2 - 3 + 4 - π) is negative, therefore |2 - 3 + 4 - π| = -(2 - 3 + 4 - π)

Ok got it! Did not focus to add the terms in modulus at every step
