* 1.000

do we get such problems on the GMAT?

Back solving is better for this kind of problems.
D E are clearly out.
multiply 0.999*1.001= 0.9999 ~1
Obviously others (A,B) are less than C

We may get this kind of problems.

Which of the following is closest to \frac{1}{1.001} ?

* 0.997
* 0.998
* 0.999
* 1.000
* 1.001

1/1.001
= 1000/1001
= (1001-1)/1001
= 1-1/1001 and 1/1001 nearly equal to .001
= 1-.001
= 0.999

option C
