What does everyone think of this school such as the learning environment, competitiveness, etc? Is this more of a friendly school or more of a pond full of sharks?

Stanford is commonly perceived as both friendly and "laid back" in the West Coast sense. Individual perception, of course, can differ.

Top schools do not let you to disclose grades. Team spirit is emphasized.
Admissions at Stanford are highly selective though.
In fact, Stanford is the most selective MBA program.

Hi Hjort,

What about International Alumni Mass Index? I know it'll be more difficult to track alumni outside US, but it would be helpful for all International applicants.

My proposed grouping would be:

US & Canada.
Western Europe.
Eastern Europe (including Russia & all FSU states).
Asia.
Latin America.
Middle East & Africa.

The grouping is somehow similar to The Economist's classification for news, excluding the special focus on Britain , subdividing Europe and grouping US with Canada.

Hope it helps and keep enlightening us.
Cheers. L.

Here is a delightful summary of Stanford's admissions process from 1996. While parts of it are clearly dated, the discussion of a strong essay is still useful.

What is Stanford known for? Where are they strong? Do most grads end up in Silicone Valley? Is it's selectiveness somewhat related to the fact that its by far the smallest ultra-elite?
