Hi there
MBAApp19,
As mentioned above, I would not worry too much about the logistics of your post-MBA goals from a visa standpoint. That said, schools
will want your goals to be attainable from a career pathway standpoint.
The best way to think about your MBA goals is to break them down into the short and long term. As valuable as an MBA is, you likely will not be launching your own fund on the first day out of business school. So, do your research and figure out what short-term positions are realistic for you.
You can start by looking at career postings from companies in your target industry. Pay close attention to required industry experience, particularly if you are considering changing careers. This will give you a good idea of what role you might be qualified for immediately post-MBA and will allow you to specifically note which position you hope to secure after school.
With your attainable role as a launching point, set out an ambitious path and long-term goal for yourself. This long-term goal is your opportunity to dream big and show how you will drive change in your future industry. It should flow logically (though not necessarily obviously) from your short-term goals. Your career path should make sense to the reader and allow you to leverage the skills you will develop during your MBA and throughout your early post-MBA career.
Naturally, your goals should articulate passion and share how you will be unique as well.
Goal development is a key component of our
comprehensive packages and we would be happy to provide further guidance here. Feel free to reach out to

Career Goals?
I currently work in a traditional investment management arm of a bulge bracket bank.
I want to launch my own fund in the future that democratises access to investment opportunities that are typically reserved for HNI’s and institutional investors I deal with . This is a gap I want to fill. The network at B school will offer me insights and few courses I am keen to take to fill some gaps in my skillset ( behavioural economics, entrepreneurship et al)
My current job has given me the skills but I need to work in a niche firm (very few at the moment ) that are doing this. Think of it as a startup revolutionizing investment management
Will B schools see this unrealistic or unviable for internationals as startups don’t sponsor visa ? I’m location indifferent but this is my goal and very clear within 3-5 years post MBA, I want start my own fund.
Are these goals ok on: 1. Employability? 2. Ambition ? 3. Realistic transition from my current role
Thanks in advance for all responses I get!
