Official ExplanationWhen the 1,498 students are divided into classes of 35, the number of left over students, N, is simply the remainder when dividing 1,498 by 35. Easiest is to use traditional long division, because your calculator will not give the remainder:

The remainder is 28, which is greater than 25, (A).
*You can also find the remainder on the calculator as follows. 1498 divided by 35 = 42.8. Subtract the whole number part to get the decimal remainder: 42.8 – 42 = 0.8. Multiply this result by the number you divided by: 0.8 × 35 = 28. This means that 28 is the remainder.
