1. According to OG and Kaplan, Having is always wrong
2. It is unclear whether the national supply is contaminated or the blood contaminated. National supply is just a word, whereas blood is a substance. A word can't be contaminated, but blood can. It is also unclear what contamination refers to - this is the main reason why it is wrong. Do you see what I am saying?
3. I think it should be SAVES if you say one in five Americans.
1. Even + ...ing just doesn't sound right in English. "Even though he had managerial and executive ability..." and "Despite having managerial and executive ability..." would be correct.
2. As bb said. Also "proved helpful + infinitive" is wrong, should be "proved helpful in doing" or "proved helpful to subject."
3. Answer A is an awkward sentence and alters the meaning. To me the subject is implied to be "One fifth of Americans who work shorter hours" when the actual subject should be "One fifth of all working Americans"
I agree that it is unclear who "those" refers to out of context. But it implies that they were defined in the previous sentence.
