Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Today is June 8, and I just signed up to take the GMAT on July 13 (~5 weeks). I took a practice test a few weeks ago and scored a 640 (41Q/36V) - other than that, I have basically no preparation. However, I have the next month off of work, so will be able to study full time, more or less. I am shooting for 750+.

My question is that I created a study plan in which I spend the first 2 and a half weeks learning content, and the second two weeks until the exam doing as many practice problems and practice tests as possible. In the content-learning phase, I have basically just used the same syllabus as a Manhattan GMAT course, but am going to do their homework over 2 day periods instead of weekly periods. Consequently, on most days, I am spending 3/4 of the day on quant, and 1/4 on Verbal.

Have people with short preparation periods had success with focusing exclusively on quant, then exclusively on verbal? Or have people been able to fairly easily mix the two?

Does anybody have good resources, tips, or recommendations about how to most effectively reach such an increase in around a month's time, or is it simply too unrealistic? (I figure I can study on average 7-8 hours per day, getting me to that threshold of around 200 hours of studying). Thanks so much for all your help and insights, really appreciate it!

Best,
RP

Since you are going to put in 7-8 hrs everyday, you need to figure out a study plan in which you study on each section everyday. Work on Quant for 2 hrs. Then take a break. Switch to Verbal for 2 hrs and then a break. In your next 4 - 4.5 hr session, you can choose to give more time to one section.
The reason is twofold -
You want to work on everything simultaneously so that you develop skill in all areas and do not get rusty on any.
You are bound to get bored of one topic so a switch is good to keep your mind fresh.

The target is not unrealistic but will require you to study smart. Focus on concepts, logic and the why behind every solution and you should be on your way to a good score.
