Just let me know your opinions guys.This is not a gmat question but this should not prevent you frm trying
This is what i feel too.
But during the exam i felt that the correct sent should be
Several Guests noticed Mr Peter fall back in his chair and gasp for breath

But metalliafan, can u explain why cant it be 4.
I saw him do this.

"Fall back" and "gasp" are not the verbs of the sentence. In this case, they are nouns.

I saw in the dictionary that "notice" can be use similar in structure: notice sb do sth
--> correct = Several Guests noticed Mr Peter fall back in his chair and gasp for breath.
So I think here "fall" and "gasp" are verbs in their infinitive form (without "to"). (not noun)

agree with metallicafan here. imo, following would be a better sentence.

"Several Guests noticed Mr Peter falling back in his chair and gasping for breath"
